Wie wir uns in Serien verlieren
Streaming platforms are enjoying a growing number of consumers worldwide: contemporary series are overwhelming us like an avalanche, taking with them everything we previously knew about film formats. Meanwhile, the relationship between viewer and series has reached a level of intimacy that goes beyond that of previous forms of reception. They enthral viewers and appear to hide something unfathomable. Once viewers are immersed in a series, they are at risk of losing themselves in it. The theoretical work is dedicated first and foremost to the question of what occurs in the innermost part of the subject during the process of watching the contemporary series and what possible motives lie behind becoming lost in a series.
RESTE VON GESTERN
The installation Reste von Gestern (remnants of yesterday) focuses on the question of how pandemic restrictions influence an individual’s behaviour and whether their overall social perception of time changes as a consequence. Forming part of the installation, the nine-minute video runs in a continuous loop. Additionally, short texts are distributed around the room, each attached to stones lying on the floor that appear to float in the air.
In the voyeuristic and atmospheric shots, scenes move between people, urban areas, and nature. Everything appears as though it has paused for a moment. The sense of waiting is sustained in terms of content too, so as to suggest a permanence in daily life that is almost meditative in character, while simultaneously being situationally comical and even oppressive.
