Die Gestaltung der Unverfügbarkeit

Design vor dem Hintergrund des Klimawandels

Climate change is increasingly gaining attention. Not least because its e ects are now also plainly being felt in the western world. One reason for the climate crisis is the trend towards a throwaway society that carelessly consumes and wastes limited resources. If the climate crisis is to be counteracted, it must become clear that people and their actions are part of the problem. People need to reintegrate themselves into the cycle of nature instead of dominating it. In my theoretical work, I have investigated the e ectiveness of design in this context and the role that designers will have to play in ghting climate change, both symptomatically and pre- ventively, in the future.

KOPĀ DINING TABLE

It is often the case that small kitchens provide far too little work space for several people to cook at the same time. KOPĀ is a multi- functional table concept that achieves a new level of connection between kitchen and living space. Distinctive elements of this concept are the removable inserts in the centre of the table which feature various functions: temperature control, storing, sharing, rotating, and turning about. With this design, people are invited to develop new multicultural eating habits, communicate with one another, and prepare food together. The fact that many functions are avail- able means the table is of interest for both pri- vate and event contexts. By not assembling with composite materials, the construction is recyclable according to material type.
