Die leere Bühne

Eine Betrachtung ihrer Atmosphäre anhand des Blockuniversums

The thesis constructs a thought experiment that explores the empty stage while making use of metaphysical theories of time. In the course of writing the thesis, the remarkable atmosphere surrounding the empty stage is compared to the model of the block universe, which states that the past, present, and future coexist concurrently. Ultimately, it follows that the empty stage is never really empty, but it instead unifies all time-related states within itself simultaneously.

black sand above us

The work black sand above us consists of several elements: photography and performance come together in a purpos-built space through which pipe sculptures whirled. The bends and curves of the pipes correspond to the movements of the dancers and reveal an interplay between the human body and its environment. With her camera, the artist herself participates in the performance, which is choreographed to take the point of view of the camera. Here the performative act is neither bound to the short moment before the camera, which lingers just in two-dimensional form, nor does it act solely as a tool for the staged photograph. In black sand above us, it frees itself from this framework and becomes a separate part of the work. The performative process of staged photography becomes perceptible and provides the observer with an extensive insight into her working approach.
