Sich aussetzen
After my performance Auratic Prostitution (2018), in which I surrendered my body to the touches of the participants, I began to explore the topic of performers’ self-surrender. The aspect of self-surrender is found as a constantly recurring motif in performance art. Since the beginning of this ephemeral art form, artists have explored their own physical and psychological limits, as well as the inhibitions and moral strength of the audience, in very different ways. I wanted to focus on possible motifs of self-delivery and underlying cultural- historical references, role models of and projections onto artists in society, and transformative potentials that can deepen and broaden the understanding of this practice.
Blackbox
In behavioural biology, black box is a metaphor for mental and cognitive processes which cannot be measured, described, or reproduced yet by scientific means. In this context, the term stimulus does not refer to a discrete physical event, as in physiology, but to all internal and external stimuli at a particular time. Therefore, black box is a system for processing internal and external stimuli, the structure of which is unknown.
Blackbox is an interactive installation that, through an interaction involving aura and energy, refers to the phenomenon previously described here. I made contact with those present using pure energy. The aim of the performance is to create a tangible spatial experience that bypasses a common visual experience. In this way, the almost imperceptible interaction of energy is what stands in the foreground.
