Auf eine oder andere Weise
The text is an endeavour to analyse and understand the processes involved in design development. Just how do the results of design come about? In which phases of the development of projects are decisions made, and what and who influences these decisions? What position do I, as a designer, occupy in this process? The way decisions affect my design work process is the subject of my research. For the work, I have created a book from collected notes and quotes.
Everything is in place, glittering in its splendour,
presented in showcases
in high gloss wrapping, presented in its finest, ready to be eaten. All the flaws have been corrected. All the edges have been smoothed.
What is hidden behind this perfect object? What is concealed
behind the completed result?
Prozess feiern!
The practice component, as in the theory one, was concerned with analysing processes in design as well as complex relevant questions: what lies behind the outcomes and who is behind them? What disputes and misunderstandings were there within the team during the design process, and what compromises had to be reached? In which areas were excessive demands made? In this context, I likewise had to consider the communication with the clients: was there too much input? Too little feedback? Or was the time period too short?
These processes are documented in a video work and further composed in the form of a collage. The installation consisting of two screens, vertical and horizontal, displays different types of film footage. A soundtrack conveys the atmosphere of the processes. On the opposite wall, excerpts from the theoretical work are on view, supported by dynamic graphic elements that link video and text.
